The Whitsunday Sporting Car Club enjoyed a very successful event for its Khanacross Race Weekend in Queensland.

Across Saturday and Sunday, club members enjoyed a big weekend of motorsport, along with some special visitors joining the club to enjoy some epic racing at the Queensland event.

Incoming Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra and Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser attended the club on the Sunday, getting a chance to meet the members and lend their support to those taking part.

Both Vohra and Fraser joined in the action, both sitting in as passengers in several runs of the khanacross course.

Vohra himself also took to the course as a driver, sampling the club level event for himself ahead of officially starting as CEO in November.

“A massive congratulations to everyone at the Whitsunday Sporting Car Club for putting on an impressive event across the weekend,” Vohra said.

“I was very pleased to attend the event and meet some of our passionate members who love what they do. With new participants taking the chance to run their cars in this exciting format, it was great to see the club sign up several new members on the day. These sorts of events are what keeps our sport growing across the country. Our clubs are the lifeblood of the sport and I am looking forward to attending more events in the future as I take on this new role as CEO in the coming weeks.”
 
Earlier in the weekend, Fraser and Vohra joined more than 200,000 Supercars fans at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 – enjoying an opportunity to meet with many of the Motorsport Australia officials who made the event possible.


“Once again we saw the passion and commitment on display from our loyal officials at what was a massive weekend of racing across the Gold Coast street circuit,” Fraser said.
 
“Queenslanders certainly know how to put on a show and it was terrific to see such large numbers of motorsport fans enjoying a brilliant weekend of racing in both the Supercars, as well as the support categories who were on track.”
 
Vohra will join Motorsport Australia for his first official day at the organisation’s Melbourne headquarters on 6 November, working closely with current CEO Eugene Arocca during a short transition period.
 
Arocca resigned from his role earlier this year after 11 years in the top job and a large number of achievements throughout his time as CEO.
 
Motorsport Australia will recognise Arocca’s significant contribution to the sport throughout the coming weeks.
