The popular Shannons Adelaide Rally will welcome more than 300 cars for this year’s edition of the tarmac rally.

One of the largest of its kind in the world, the event will see a huge variety of special cars make their way across Adelaide and the picturesque Adelaide Hills over three jam-packed days.

From exotic rally cars to iconic brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and McLaren, the field of vehicles taking part in the event will certainly put on a show for the people of South Australia.

While the cars will be one of the major elements attracting spectators from across the state, there will also be a number of notable names competing, including Australian Football League star Charlie Dixon and Supercars Championship driver Todd Hazelwood.

Making up the event will be 30 stages, which will see competitors cover some of the most scenic roads and towns of South Australia.

Starting off with 11 stages on Friday, the event will have a further 11 stages on Saturday, wrapping up with the famous Gouger Street Party where the whole field will be on display, along with music and extended outdoor dining.

Sunday will see the remaining eight stages run, including the newly introduced stage in Strathalbyn, which prides itself on being a motoring town, before finishing in the heart of Adelaide at Victoria Park.

There will be multiple opportunities for fans to see the cars, including the spectator-friendly stages in Stafford, Millbrook, Windy Point, Mount Lofty and Sturt Valley, as well as the lunch stops in Bridgewater.

Shannons Adelaide Rally event director Tim Possingham was excited for another year of the event and was looking forward to the new Sunday stage.

Gouger Street Party Crowd“The Strathalbyn Town Stage is a great addition to the Shannons Adelaide Rally,” Possingham said.

“Strathalbyn is a beautiful Adelaide Hills township that’s got some significant motoring history, as home to the Gilbert's Motor Museum, Collectable Classics & Complete Auto Solutions and the Ken Blake Memorial Statue.

“It’s also the perfect location for a great drive from Adelaide, through some stunning scenery and townships. Strathalbyn has also recently had a streetscape upgrade, so it’s the perfect time to showcase the town.

“Combined with the Soldiers Memorial Garden, which look stunning in spring, it’s a really attractive town and a great place to have a stage. The Strathalbyn Town Stage is something we want to grow and expand on in the years to come.
“The Gouger Street Party has been run since 1997, so it’s a really important and highly successful element to the Shannons Adelaide Rally.

“The Gouger Street Party attracts the largest influx of people to that precinct of any event, even when comparing it to the likes of Chinese New Year. It’s an important economic driver for that precinct; consistently delivering over half a million dollars of economic benefits every year.”

The Shannons Adelaide Rally takes place in and around the towns of the Adelaide Hills and Adelaide on 17 to 19 November.
